Spring 2026 Financial Aid Workshop
FEPPS hosted a two -part financial aid workshops on June 9th and 10th focused on informing and advising current and future students in higher education on their financial aid decisions to best suit their academic endeavors. The session was led by Khushnum Sauna, an Educational Advisor from Tacoma Community College’s Metropolitan Development Council (MDC) partner: the Educational Opportunity Center (EOC). The first information session on Tuesday June 9th was open to any individual in the facility interested in understanding the complex realm of financial aid. In the first session, Kushnam provided a thorough overview of how to navigate and utilize grants, scholarships, and federal direct loans while reminding the group of the risks and rewards involved in using these resources. Getting Washington specific, she provided details about tuition for schools in Washington State and the names and contacts of other staff at the TCC Center for Student Advocacy and Cultural Support who provide similar guidance and support. Students interested in a one-on-one advising session returned the next day to discuss future financial aid planning in more detail.
The two back-to-back workshops provided students with the materials and insight needed to make informed choices when pursuing higher education and managing unavoidable financial barriers. Though the realm of financial aid may be daunting, Khushnum and those involved in the planning of these workshops helped familiarize students and future students with the processes involved in enrolling in higher education and set themselves up for success.
