Who We Are

History

FEPPS was created and grown by the advocacy of incarcerated individuals at the Washington Corrections Center for Women. In 2011, members of WCCW’s Women’s Village began inviting professors to the prison to build a liberal arts education program.

Mission and Values

We envision a world in which people in prison can realize their academic potential through access to meaningful, sustained, high-quality educational opportunities; where a culture of punishment is replaced by a culture of human dignity.

Our Team

We are a community of life-long students, educators, activists, advocates and more. Our leadership consists of a small staff team, a board of directors, student advisory council, and an education advisory board.

The experience inside the classroom is one of magic, not in the sleight of hand way, but in the way of the inexplicable and awesome. In the classroom, prisoners are remade into students and students into citizens. I learned not only how to think critically but also how to think about my potential position in the world as an individual who has agency.
