Trans Day of Visibility

Happy Trans Day of Visibility! Creating a welcoming, inclusive and affirming learning environment for students of all genders and expressions is an essential part of our mission. In the spirit of TDOV we want to uplift some of the amazing work being done in our region and broader community:

Queer The Land is an incredible group of queer, trans and two spirit BIPOC who organize around collective land ownership and mutual aid. By providing housing, emergency kits and building community, their work addresses the structural causes of oppression that creates homelessness, displacement and threatens the survival of QT2BIPOC in Seattle. You can contribute supplies, donate land or support their work in many other ways.

Trans Women of Color Solidarity Network is a collective that advocates for the liberation and empowerment of trans women of color living in Washington State. Their fund provides cash grants to members that allow them to pay for rent, food, transition costs, and more. They are a fantastic model of collective care!

Black and Pink is a national group dedicated to ending the prison industrial complex and supporting incarcerated LGBTQ people and incarcerated people living with HIV/AIDS. They have a thriving pen pal and newsletter program, operate the Lyndon house in Omaha NE (housing and community support), provide comprehensive reentry support for LGBTQ people leaving prison, and are currently running a capital campaign to purchase another space in Omaha – check out the Opportunity Campus Capital Campaign to learn more. Local folks can connect with the Seattle/Tacoma chapter.

Trans Lifeline provides a variety of resources to trans people, including a peer-to-peer phone line and microgrants to fund legal name changes and commissary and post-release support to incarcerated trans people. Check out their website for a wide range of other resources.

Finally, there are always individual trans people needing support with legal fees, transition costs, tuition, rent, etc. on platforms like GoFundMe. We encourage you to seek these out and support as another way to make a very direct impact. And if you are lucky enough to have a trans person in your life, make sure you show them extra love today!!
